Vassal Lane’s musical talent runs high, and this was in perfectly intune evidence at the Winter Concert on December 13. Under the direction of Brian Gellerstein, Simon Watts, and David Cross, 150 of our 301 VLUS students performed in the concert.

The performance was at 6PM for parents and family members, and during the school day for the students of Vassal Lane. The show was a great success. At the evening performance, the auditorium was filled with family and friends from our community. It was standing room only: there were people sitting in the aisles! There were performances from the VLUS band, including woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. And winter_concert_2013_content.pngfrom the VLUS orchestra, with string instruments. There were also performances from the school chorus. The 6th grade chorus sang: “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri and “Hello, Goodbye” by The Beatles; the 7th grade chorus sang: “Forget You” by Ceelo Green and “Here Comes The Sun” by The Beatles; and the 8th grade chorus sang: “One Day” by Matisyahu and “Hey Jude” by The Beatles. Before the concert, 7th grade chorus member Emma Beaumont-Smith said “I think it will be great, we’ve been practicing hard from the beginning of the year to now.”

Our wonderfully talented band -- drummers Tal Ben-Anat, Harry MacArthur, and Dylan Barber, Sam Costa on keyboard, and Anuj Gajjar on guitar -- backed the singers.

“Cambridge kids are just so fortunate to have the opportunities to express themselves artistically under [these music teachers’] expert guidance, and I want you to know how impressed I was with everything I saw and heard” said Superintendent Jeff Young, who attended the performance. “I'm always happy to hear young people sing Beatles songs, and the way that all three choruses came together for the end of Hey Jude was just spectacular” he added.
