Created by the VLUS Student Government
We have chosen to do this project by highlighting members of our VLUS community as a way to celebrate them. We aim to accomplish this goal by learning about what connects us all, while showing our community that we should not judge a
book by its cover, because there is more to each of us than what our appearance presents. We hope that by getting to know the people in our school, we can achieve a deeper understanding of our VLUS community, and a stronger sense of
connection.
Celebrating each other is another way we all become better versions of ourselves.
Meet Adaline (that’s what she likes to be called)
Adaline
is our VLUS sixth grade teacher. She also co-facilitates the Black Affinity Group. Adaline was born in Heidelberg, Germany, because her mother was serving in the army and was posted at the military base in nearby Karlsruhe. Adaline
sleeps 8-9 Hours a day. She likes to go to the movies, she reads a lot, and she likes to visit friends. Adaline's favorite book of all time is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and she rereads it every year.
The book she’s reading right now is James by Percival Everett, but she’s actually listening to the audiobook. She likes to read a lot of other books as well.
Adaline cares a lot about the lyrics of music. The lyrics are more important to her than music itself. Every month, she makes a new playlist based on the season of the year and her mood. Her favorite genre is pop and she and Ms. Orelie
are going to see Sza and Kendrick on tour. Adaline loved school when she was younger. Even now, she’s still a student and still loves school. She liked all of the classes as long as she felt like she was learning and thought
that the teacher liked her. When she started college, she thought she was going to be a doctor, so she was Pre-Med, but the classes were too early so she switched and started a triple major: English Lit, African and African American
Studies, European Cultural Studies, and then a minor in Film and Television. Then she dropped out of college. In 2019 she graduated with a Liberal Arts degree. She also has a Masters in Education from Merrimack College, and is currently
working on a Masters in Social Work at Simmons.
A life experience that really affected her was growing up in Maine and being the only student of color in her school.
Adaline wants to shout out to the 6th grade team, “they're just doing such a great job, and they’re wonderful colleagues to work with”. She also wants to shout out to her mom, because she teaches 6th grade ELA,
and she's the best!
Thank you Adaline for your dedication to our VLUS community!
