For the past week the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Ms. Oksana's Spanish class has been learning about Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos as they say in Mexico. In addition to a BBC documentary on the topic and a showing of the movie Coco, students made sugar skulls FROM SCRATCH, including the royal icing just the way it is made in Mexico. Once the sugar skulls were ready, they were placed as offerings on the altar. Ask your child to tell you more about this beautiful celebration. Over which days does it occur? Who "comes" in each day? What do the living celebrate? How?
