8th Grade Student Brings the The Maasai Stoves and Solar Project to VLUS
Posted on 01/22/2018
Welcome to the Maasai Stoves & Solar Project! Since 2009 this project has been the primary focus of the International Collaborative, also known as the ICSEE or the International Collaborative for Science, Education, and the Environment, a non-profit organization.

Perhaps you are already aware of the danger of smoke in the homes of pastoral people in the developing world, caused by indoor cooking with open fires. This is a profound international health issue that affects millions.

In response, the Maasai Stoves & Solar Project designs and installs clean-burning and efficient wood-burning stoves and solar panel-based electrical systems in the homes of the people. Helping the people organize to reach for a better life, the Project also enables the installation of a settlement-wide solar panel electrical system. In addition, the Maasai Stoves & Solar Project applies core empowerment values to work with all projects, including livestock and water safety.

EthanEthan Kellogg, an 8th grader here at Vassal Lane Upper School has been volunteering his time to the Maasai Stoves and Solar Project locally and abroad in Tanzania. He is very excited about bringing this work to VLUS.

Ethan, along with his mother, Stephanie, and Ms. Carlow, a teacher at VLUS will lead students in project- based and fundraising activities as they learn about the many other facets of the Project. The student activities are designed to build awareness and further support the ICSEE work. The Project will end with a culminating project to be displayed and presented at the Spring Arts Night.
