GamestarThis year, VLUS students are becoming video game designers! Ms. Riley & Mr. Sadowski are working with a group of 18 sixth grade boys using Gamestar Mechanic to teach the principles of game design and systems thinking in a highly engaging (and somewhat addictive) online environment. The game features three fully integrated components:

Play. Gamestar Mechanic features a rich single-player Quest where players learn the principles of game design through an exciting adventure game.

Design. Once players have shown a certain level of mastery they earn a game design workshop where they can use their 'sprites' to design their own original games.

Share. The game also features a vibrant community called Game Alley where players can publish, review, and collaborate on games designed by other players.

Let your kids teach you! Since kids are often more comfortable jumping in and playing new games, it is often effective to let your kids mentor you through the gameplay and design process. Aside from showing an interest in your child's passion, the process of having them teach you creates an even deeper level of mastery and communication skills!
