The Fall Food and Clothing Drive run by our Seventh Grade Community Service Elective “Do Something” brought in food, clothing and toys for distribution to people in need in the Cambridge community.

According to club member Abdirahman Abdulle, it was a great thing to do, and he “felt happy helping less fortunate” people. The donations were slow to start but the club extended the time for donating and that helped, according to Abdulle, but he wished more people donated. He said that most of the clothing was for girls, but there was some boys clothing, and some winter coats and other warm clothing.

The food collected was donated to Project Uplift, which operates a food pantry which serves dinner in Central Square. There are rules that the organization adheres to for accepting donations-no food past its “sell by” date, for instance.

The group hopes to visit the soup kitchen and help prepare and serve food.
