On Monday April 28, Vassal Lane’s eighth graders walked to CRLS
to hear and speak with Terrence Roberts. Terrence Roberts was one of the
“Little Rock Nine”: nine students who helped integrate Arkansas’s
Little Rock Central High School in 1957. The visit was arranged by the
organization Facing History and Ourselves. Among his many affiliations,
Dr. Roberts is a Board member of Facing History and Ourselves. Students
were invited to stand up and ask Dr. Roberts questions (without, at his
direction, using the words “like” and “um”). Many Vassal Lane students
took the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Dr. Roberts, and he
masterfully answered a wide variety of questions.
